Organic Spiced Rum from the East Neuk

East Neuk Organic Spiced Rum

As well as making organic beer, we also spend time sourcing and importing interesting casks of spirits from organic producers that we like.

Once the casks arrive with us in Scotland, we then spice, blend and bottle the contents according to our own recipes. We release these spirits under the name ‘East Neuk Organic’.

Our house rum (pictured above) is a favourite in our bar and has been since we released our first bottles back in 2018.

Dried hogweed seeds

The base is a 6-year old organic rum, made in Paraguay, then spiced by us using a delicious list of fresh, organic ingredients (like pineapple and root ginger), foraged botanicals (like hogweed seeds), dried store-cupboard spices (like cardamom and allspice) and some of our favourite seaweeds foraged from the East Neuk shoreline.

The freshness of the organic pineapple is balanced out nicely by the muskiness and warmth of the dried spices and botannicals. And the seaweeds add a lovely minerality and texture. We think that this unique blend of ingredients makes for a rum rooted in the Fife coastline we look out on from our door.

We don’t filter or add any caramel at bottling, which you’d maybe be surprised to know is very common in the world of spiced rum (and dark spirits in general). We also bottle at a higher strength of 46% because we think it tastes better left there.

All of our organic spirits are certified by the Soil Association, which means that they meet the highest standards of quality and are far kinder to the planet.

We normally serve our Spiced Rum mixed with one of our organic house-made fruit shrubs, but it also works really nicely on its own or over ice. Pop in to see us here at the bar from Thursday to Sunday to try a rum shrub, or to pick up a bottle and a recipe to try out at home.

If you’re further away, we can deliver from St Monans to anywhere in the UK. The rum is available via the link here.

You can also enjoy our rum at our three exclusive stockists, The Kinneuchar Inn (Fife), Timberyard (Edinburgh) and Cail Bruich (Glasgow), who are all serving it in very distinct ways. Well worth a visit.
