All Hail Pineapple Weed!

By Lucy Hine

Pineapple weed is a relation of chamomile, but has a far fresher, juicier aroma, which is very similar to pineapple jelly sweets when you press the buds between your fingertips.

The plants appear in scrubland, at the side of paths, driveways and pavements, thriving in the poorest conditions and most unlikely spots. The word 'weed' suggests something unwanted and unloved. Perhaps it was named by gardeners who like everything a bit neater than we do?

This is a plant we love, not just because its modest appearance belies its underlying flamboyance, but because every year its first appearance marks the start of the good summer weather here in Scotland. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

This week we are releasing a new beer made with pineapple weed. We thought a simple Table Beer would be a fitting resting spot for this humble plant.

Our Table Beer, or variations of it, is something we have made more than anything else since we started brewing. Partly because the batches go out so quickly, but also because this is a style of beer we love drinking ourselves.

We’ve used organic whole grains and whole leaf hops as always. But this time we’ve also upped the percentage of oats to give the beer even more body.

The pineapple weed was added twice: firstly after the boil with the third addition of organic hops and then again in a shrub just before canning.

Organic, unfiltered, unpasteurised and conditioned for two months before release. This is a fresh, light, effervescent, everyday kind of beer, great for right now.

Unfiltered, can-conditioned. Suitable for vegans.

Available online here, or in the real-life shop at St Monans. Also to be found on the shelves of some of our favourite independent shops and bars. See the list here.
